Managed Distro does not really fit education as depending on age your students may not be able to have an Apple ID, may not have email, and the devices may not be deployed in a one-to-one. I need a solution in which I can install apps wirelessly without having to trek to site campuses everytime they need an app. Looks like Apple really needs to work on the shared iPad management in higher educational facilities. The current solution is to make corporate devices 'supervised' via Apple Configurator, you could then use VPP Volume Purchase Program to offer the app to a user of the device.
Unfortunately not all apps are covered by VPP although Apple's ones are. Even more unfortunately as far as I am aware at the moment the only way to 'recover' your VPP licenses involves physically connecting them to the same Mac you used Apple Configurator on to make them 'supervised'.
